1 Chronicles - Chapter 11
In this Chapter we see David made King over the whole of Israel and Judah. Jesus is destined to be a King from the line of David, and we see a link to Jesus in the way the story is introduced:
"Then all Israel gathered before David at Hebron and told him, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who really led the forces of Israel. And the Lord your God told you, ‘You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be the leader of my people Israel.’”
David is to be the leader of Israel, but God describes him as the shepherd of the people. This image is adopted by Jesus in John 10 where he describes himself as a shepherd:
“I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd."
