1 Chronicles - Chapter 9

So far the book of Chronicles has been presented as a series of genealogies.  These were taken for the detailed records that were kept throughout Israel.  In verse 1 this point was made:

"So all Israel was listed in the genealogical records in The Book of the Kings of Israel."

This meticulous record keeping was important for two reasons.  Firstly, it established the factual accuracy of the history in the Bible.  It is based on real events that happened to real people, who can be traced.

Secondly, it establishes the place of Jesus in the story.  His own genealogies in Matthew and Luke demonstrate his fulfilment of prophecies; his status as King; his claim to be a descendent of Adam.

This verse in 1 Chronicles is assuring us that we can trust the accuracy of the records.
