1 Kings - Chapter 14
In this chapter there is a reference to the loss of the treasures that Solomon had provided in the temple and in his palace:
"It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took away everything. He also took away all the gold shields which Solomon had made. Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king’s house. And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord, the guards carried them, then brought them back into the guardroom."
Solomon had provided many gold shields - they were now replaced by shields of bronze. In the bible gold represents kingship, and was one of the gifts given to Jesus by the magi when he was a young child. Bronze represents sin and judgement, and the symbol of the bronze serpent lifted up by Moses on a pole, represented Jesus' death on the cross for our sin.
And in Revelation 1 we see both gold and bronze used in the description of Jesus:
"When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace"
