1 Samuel - Chapter 1

The book of 1 Samuel begins with the birth of Samuel.  His mother has been unable to have a child:

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

God answered her prayer and she gave birth to a son - and named him Samuel ("heard of God").

This miraculous birth of son, dedicated to God, is mirrored in the birth of John the Baptist - announced to Zechariah; and the birth of Jesus - announced to both Mary and Joseph.
