1 Samuel - Chapter 14
Once again in this chapter Saul acts unwisely - he binds his army with an oath:
cursed be any man who eats food today.
God has brought the people into a land flowing with milk and honey, and God's bounteous provision is seen in the honey oozing out in the woods. Jonathan, Saul's son, eats that honey and Saul is willing to see his son die because of his foolish curse.
The provision of honey as food is seen in the introduction of Jesus. John the Baptist is preparing the way for Jesus and he is described in Matthew 3 as follows:
"Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey."
