1 Samuel - Chapter 18
David is destined to be King, but that is in the future. He does not yet have royal garments. Jonathan, his friend, is the King's son and he recognises this:
"Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt."
When Jesus walked the earth he did not wear royal garments. However, at the time of his crucifixion the soldiers mocked him by putting a royal scarlet robe on him.
Both David and Jesus wore royal robes before they sat on the throne of David.
