1 Samuel - Chapter 22
David is fleeing from King Saul, who is hunting him to kill him. Saul kills the priests who have helped David. Abiathar escapes from Saul and flees to David. David then says to Abiathar:
"Stay with me; don’t be afraid. The man who wants to kill you is trying to kill me too. You will be safe with me."
Humanly speaking David is in no position to protect Abiathar, or offer him safety in his presence.
Jesus does the same thing when he is facing the people who are planning to kill him. He protects his followers:
"He asked them, ‘Who is it you want?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they said. Jesus answered, ‘I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.’ This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: ‘I have not lost one of those you gave me.’
