1 Samuel - Chapter 25
David and his men have been guarding Nabal's flocks, but when they go to him they are are rejected by Nabal. David's initial response is tell his men to put on their swords, and he goes to attack Nabal with his army of 400 men. However, David does not harm Nabal and it is God himself who kills him:
So when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed be the Lord, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept His servant from evil! For the Lord has returned the wickedness of Nabal on his own head.”
In Luke 9 Jesus is rejected by the people of Samaria, and the disciples want to respond violently. As with David, Jesus does not allow this and leaves any consequences to the Father.
As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them. Then he and his disciples went to another village.
