1 Samuel - Chapter 28

Saul seeks guidance from God, and God does not answer him.  Saul therefore seeks a medium to enable him to speak to the prophet Samuel, who has died.  He is led to a woman in Endor and he asks her to bring up Samuel - she brings up a spirit who then talks with Saul.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus shows that he has power, even over death and he also talks with someone who has died.  However, he does not just talk to a spirit - he brings the person back to life:

Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
