1 Samuel - Chapter 30
David has 600 men following him and they are in pursuit of the Amalekites, who have raided their home city and taken away their women and children.
David and the six hundred men with him came to the Besor Valley, where some stayed behind. Two hundred of them were too exhausted to cross the valley, but David and the other four hundred continued the pursuit.
After David was victorious and returning with the plunder, there was a dispute about whether the 200 men who had not fought should share in the plunder. David's response was this:
"The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this.
Jesus makes a similar promise to those who follow him in response to a question from Peter in Matthew 19:
“We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first."
