2 Kings - Chapter 12
In this chapter we read of the life of Joash, the child king who was saved to continue the line of David.
It is interesting to look at the genealogy in Matthew 1 to note what is omitted as well as what is included:
"Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,"
We have read about Jehoshaphat and Jehoram. But while Jehoram was a "forefather" rather than a literal "father" of Uzziah, there were a few generations left out in this genealogy, and we will not reach Uzziah until chapter 15 of 2 Kings.
Joash started his reign well, and he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord - but only while he was guided by Jehoiada the priest. His reign ended badly and he was assassinated. While he is part of the royal line of David, his name is written out of the record of Jesus.
