2 Kings - Chapter 5

In this chapter we read about the healing of Naaman - a gentile from the country of Aram.  Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram, and he had leprosy.

Jesus quoted this story in Luke 4, when he was being rejected in his home town of Nazareth.  In his commentary on the story he points out that while there were many in Israel with leprosy at the time of Elisha the only one to be healed was a gentile. Jesus said:

"many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”
