2 Kings - Chapter 9

In this chapter the descendants of King Ahab receive judgement from God, and the kings of Israel and Judah are both killed.

King Joram is told:

“How can there be peace ... as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel abound?"

This judgement on the two kings is concluded in this way:

"When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan. Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he escaped to Megiddo and died there."

It is significant that he died in Megiddo, as this is the place of judgement in the book of Revelation (Chapter 16) where the kings gather to oppose Jesus:

"They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. “Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.” Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon [the hill of Megiddo]."
