2 Samuel - Chapter 1
The Second book of Samuel begins with a clear link to Jesus:
Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag on the third day, behold, it happened that ....
Paul makes clear the importance of the words "on the third day" in 1 Corinthians 15:
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures."
David has been named as King by God, and anointed as King by God's prophet. But the people do not accept him as their King. And on the third day it is announced that Saul is dead and the way is clear for David to take the throne.
Jesus was named King at his crucifixion; he was anointed at Bethany. The people did not accept him as their King. And on the third day he rose from the dead, ready to take the throne of David.
