2 Samuel - Chapter 21
Some time during David's reign there had been a famine for three successive years. David asked God why and the Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”
To atone for this seven of Saul's descendants were killed. And once that was done the nation was once again answered the prayers of the people.
To enable the world to be put right with God the Messiah needed to die. And this link is made clear by this sentence:
"they were put to death during the first days of the harvest, just as the barley harvest was beginning."
This is the time of the Passover festival - the same time that Jesus died.
