Exodus - Chapter 2
In this chapter a baby is born to a couple from the house of Levi. This is Moses, who will grow up to be the author of and main character in the book of Exodus.
Moses is regarded by many commentators as a "type" of Christ - he demonstrates many aspects of Jesus' life. A key one is seen in this chapter when he leaves Egypt to live in Midian. There he stays with a man, and marries one of his daughters - Zipporah. When following the story of one of the great leaders of the Israelite people we might have expected him to marry an Israelite. Instead, like Jesus, he has a Gentile bride. Jesus' Gentile bride is the church.
