Genesis - Chapter 10
Having followed the life of Noah, this Chapter now gives a high level overview of Noah's descendants, over several generations. This is setting the scene for the story of nations. There are two key aspects to the story. God is going to show his special claim on a small area on the earth - the land of Canaan. And that land is going to the be home for his chosen people - the Israelites.
And so in this chapter we meet the nations who will inhabit Canaan and declare war on God's chosen people. And we meet the Son's of Shem - the chosen line, down to Peleg - from whose family will come Terah, the father of Abraham; and from there will come the line of Jesus.
In Chapter 10 we start to establish the lineage of Jesus - a man descended from Adam - and descended from Noah.
And we are introduced to Nimrod - a mighty hunter and king of Babylon. And the city of Babylon will be present throughout the story, until it is thrown down in Chapter 18 of Revelation.
The two sides are being formed and everyone must choose whether to follow the mighty worldly King, and the ways of Babylon. Or the chosen descendant of Shem - our Lord Jesus
