Genesis - Chapter 18
Jesus appears again in this Chapter. We are told that the Lord appeared to Abraham - and that Abraham saw three men. These three men were Jesus (another theophany) and two angels.
And in this meeting we see two aspects of Jesus. Firstly, Jesus was meeting with a friend, and sharing with him his plans. In the new testament letter of James (Chapter 2, verse 23) we read that "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness", and he was called God's friend.
Secondly, Jesus had come to bring justice to the people of the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, because their sin was so grievous.
And it is the same for people today. Jesus wants to come to us in love and friendship. But for those who reject him there will come a time of judgement.
