Genesis - Chapter 22
In, perhaps, the best known verse of the Bible (John 3:16) we read that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
That giving of the son is demonstrated in Genesis 22, when God says to Abraham: "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
And in the story the son goes as a willing sacrifice, carrying the wood upon his back. The sacrifice takes place on the hill where Jesus will be crucified. And Abraham receives his son back - effectively resurrected from the dead - on the third day.
