Genesis - Chapter 26
In this Chapter the focus is on Isaac. God had made a covenant promise to Abraham, and this promise would be fulfilled through Isaac's descendants. But now Isaac was given his own covenant promise by God. God was the God of Abraham and he is also the God of Isaac. Once again the promise refers to the coming of the Messiah - "through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed."
God is not the God of Isaac because Isaac was the son of Abraham. God is the God of Isaac because Isaac has a personal relationship with God. In this Chapter we also see Isaac failing to trust God for his protection. Isaac does not receive the covenant promise because he merits it. He receives it through grace.
As Paul says in Ephesians (Chapter 2) we are all "we are saved by grace, through faith - and it is not from ourselves it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."
