Genesis - Chapter 29

In this Chapter we see Jacob being the victim of a deceit by Laban - who tricks him into marrying Leah, rather than Rachel.  This complicated family relationship will cause problems among his children, which will play a crucial part in the family story.  And Jesus role in this is made clear at the end of the chapter.

In verse 31 we read "when the Lord saw that Leah was not loved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren."  Leah and Jacob have four children - Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah.  Then in verse 35 we read "then she stopped having children.

All of this is under the control of Jesus, as confirmed in the first Chapter of John's gospel.  "Through [Jesus] all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of men."

Jesus is the giver of life, and in this section of the story of his people we see the 12 son's of Jacob being born to four different mothers under the control and at the timing of Jesus.
