Genesis - Chapter 32

In this chapter we have two major events in Jacob's life.  First, he meets God face to face, and wrestles with him.  And God is present in the form of a man - which is another personal encounter with the pre-incarnate Jesus.

And second, Jacob asks for a blessing - and he is given a new name.  He is given the name Israel, which will become the name for God's chosen nation; a name that continues to the present day.  Israel the person, and Israel the nation will both struggle with God and will both overcome.

And as Paul says in his second letter to the Corinthians (chapter 5; verse 17) if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
