Genesis - Chapter 35

In this chapter we have the first mention of Bethlehem:

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).  Rachel died in childbirth as Benjamin, the final son of Israel, was born.

And so in Bethlehem there were now twelve sons; the completion of the heads of the twelve tribes of Israel.  And the key descendent among those twelve tribes, from the tribe of Judah, will be born in Bethlehem.  As it says in Micah (Chapter 5) But you Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
