Genesis - Chapter 47

When we first looked at the story of Joseph (in Chapter 27) I said that commentators have identified around 100 ways that Joseph is a type of Christ.  A couple of these are hidden in this chapter.

In verse 15, we see that when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence?"  They came to Joseph for bread, and he gave it to them.  In John Chapter 6 Jesus declares "I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry."

In verse 25 the Egyptians say to Joseph "you have saved our lives."  When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the angels told the shepherds of the birth of a Saviour.
