Genesis - Chapter 46

In this chapter we see that 70 members of Jacobs family are now in Egypt.  They, and their descendants will be there for hundreds of years, and will leave as a nation.  In that time they will retain their identity as descendants of Abraham.  This is why Joseph kept them separate from the Egyptians.  They were to settle in the area of Goshen - in Egypt, but not be integrated into Egypt.

As Jesus said when he prayed for his disciples (in John 17)  "I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.  They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world."
