Judges - Chapter 8
In this chapter the people are looking at Gideon as a saviour and as a king:
The Israelites said to Gideon, “Rule over us—you, your son and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.”
Gideon's response looks good:
But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.”
But Gideon did not remind them that he was not their saviour - and later he named his son Abimelech, which means "My father is king".
In the new testament we meet the person who is both saviour:
You shall name Him Jesus (The LORD is salvation), for He will save His people from their sins.”
and king:
On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.
