Numbers - Chapter 16

In this chapter we read the story of the rebellion of Korah.  Korah gathered some followers and challenged Moses’ leadership. God opened up the earth and swallowed the rebels, their families, and all their possessions.  Fire came out from the Lord and consumed the other 250 men who were party to Korah’s rebellion.

In the book of Jude, there is a warning about people entering the church as false teachers.  Jude says: “Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion.”

Jesus also warns of these false teachers in Matthew: “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.”
