Numbers - Chapter 31
This chapter is about God's judgement, and is full of warfare and death - including the death of women and children. It is perhaps one of the harder chapters for many commentators. But even so there is a link to Jesus here. After the battle we read this:
"Then all the generals and captains came to Moses and said, “We, your servants, have accounted for all the men who went out to battle under our command; not one of us is missing!"
This phrase is used by Jeremiah (Chapter 23) when he talks about another time of God's judgement and says:
I will appoint responsible shepherds who will care for them, and they will never be afraid again. Not a single one will be lost or missing. I, the Lord, have spoken! “For the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’
The total protection by God of every one of his servants is prophetic, and links to the coming of the future King, called The Lord Is Our Righteousness - and also called Jesus.
