Numbers - Chapter 5

In this chapter there is a test to be carried out when a man suspects that his wife has been unfaithful - described as the law of jealousy.

There are some interesting links in the rules to the incident in John chapter 8, where a woman who was caught in the act of adultery was brought before Jesus.

One clear distinction is that it says in Chapter 5 that the procedure in Chapter 5 only applies where the woman has not been caught in the act; however it also says that this would mean that there is no witness against her - which was certainly the case in the story of Jesus, as he points out that all had left and no one was there to condemn her.

In the rules in chapter 5 the woman is to be brought before a priest - Jesus is definitely a priest.

And the priest is required to get some dust from the tabernacle floor.  In the story in John, it is stated that the incident takes place in the temple courts.  And Jesus runs his finger through the dust on the ground to write something there.
